The Significance of Quranic Supplications (Duas)



1. Rabbana taqabbal minna innaka antas samee ul aleem

  • Arabic Text: رَبَّنا تَقَبَّل مِنّا ۖ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ السَّميعُ العَليمُ
  • Meaning: "O our Lord! accept (this service) from us, verily You (alone) are the Hearer, the Knower."
  • Surah & Verse: Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 127
  • Importance and Context: This dua was recited by Prophets Abraham (Ibrahim) and Ishmael (Isma'il) as they were raising the foundations of the Kaaba, the House of Allah. It highlights the humility of prophets who, despite performing a monumental act of worship, still sought Allah's acceptance. 2. Rabbana waijAAalna muslimayni laka wamin thurriyyatina ommatan muslimatan laka waarina manasikana watub AAalayna innaka anta alttawwabu alrraheem

  • Arabic Text: رَبَّنا وَاجعَلنا مُسلِمَينِ لَكَ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِنا أُمَّةً مُسلِمَةً لَكَ وَأَرِنا مَناسِكَنا وَتُب عَلَينا ۖ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ التَّوّابُ الرَّحيمُ
  • Meaning: "Our Lord, and make us Muslims [in submission] to You and from our descendants a Muslim nation [in submission] to You. And show us our rites and accept our repentance. Indeed, You are the Accepting of repentance, the Merciful."
  • Surah & Verse: Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 128
  • Importance and Context: This dua is a continuation of Prophet Abraham's and Ishmael's supplications after building the Kaaba. It reflects their deep sense of awe and fear of Allah, even after a lifetime of exemplary obedience. 3. Rabbana aatina fiddunya hasanatan wa fil aakhirati hasanatan waqina azaabannaar

  • Arabic Text: رَبَّنا ءاتِنا فِى الدُّنيا حَسَنَةً وَفِى الءاخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنا عَذابَ النّارِ
  • Meaning: "Our Lord! grant us good in this world and good in the hereafter and save us from the torment of the Fire."
  • Surah & Verse: Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 201
  • Importance and Context: This is a comprehensive dua that encompasses all worldly and otherworldly objectives. The word "hasanah" (good) is inclusive of all forms of goodness, both inward and outward. In this world, it includes personal and family health, lawful livelihood, fulfillment of needs, virtuous deeds, beneficial knowledge, honor, and strength of faith. In the Hereafter, it covers the blessings of Paradise, the pleasure of Allah, and the privilege of seeing Him. The verse also emphasizes protection from the punishment of the Fire. 4. Rabbana afrigh AAalayna sabran wathabbit aqdamana waonsurna AAala alqawmi alkafireen

  • Arabic Text: رَبَّنا أَفرِغ عَلَينا صَبرًا وَثَبِّت أَقدامَنا وَانصُرنا عَلَى القَومِ الكٰفِرينَ
  • Meaning: "Our Lord, pour down upon us patience, and make our steps firm and assist us against the unbelieving people."
  • Surah & Verse: Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 250
  • Importance and Context: This dua was recited by the soldiers of Talut (Saul) when they went forth to face Goliath (Jalut) and his army. It is a prayer for fortitude, steadfastness, and victory against disbelievers. The context reveals that Talut's army, though initially large, was tested with a river, and only a few remained. Those who remained, despite being few against a mighty host, strengthened their resolve by affirming Allah's promise of triumph, which comes from Him alone, not from numbers or supplies. This dua is a powerful reminder that a small group can overcome a mighty host by Allah's leave, and Allah is with the patient.

5. SamiAAna wa aataAAna ghufraanaka rabbana wa ilaykal maseer

  • Arabic Text: سَمِعنا وَأَطَعنا ۖ غُفرانَكَ رَبَّنا وَإِلَيكَ المَصيرُ
  • Meaning: "We hear and obey, our Lord, grant us Thy forgiveness and to Thee is the end of all journeys."
  • Surah & Verse: Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 285
  • Importance and Context: This verse, along with the following one, is highly significant. It expresses the complete submission and obedience of believers to Allah's commands. It acknowledges that despite their sincerity, believers are imperfect and humbly seek Allah's forgiveness for their sins. 6. Rabbana la tu akhithnaa innaseenaa aw akhtaana

  • Arabic Text: رَبَّنا لا تُؤاخِذنا إِن نَسينا أَو أَخطَأنا
  • Meaning: "Our Lord! take us not to task if we forget or fall into error."
  • Surah & Verse: Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 286

  • Meaning: "Our Lord! do not lay on us a burden as Thou did lay upon those before us."

  • Arabic Text: رَبَّنا وَلا تُحَمِّلنا ما لا طاقَةَ لَنا بِهِ ۖ وَاعفُ عَنّا وَاغفِر لَنا وَارحَمنا ۚ أَنتَ مَولىٰنا فَانصُرنا عَلَى القَومِ الكٰفِرينَ
  • Meaning: "Our Lord! Impose not on us that which we have not the strength to bear, grant us forgiveness and have mercy on us. You are our Protector. Help us against those who deny the truth."

9. Rabbana la tuzigh quloobanaa baAAda ith hadaytana wahab lanaa min ladunka rahmatan innaka antal wahhaab

  • Arabic Text: رَبَّنا لا تُزِغ قُلوبَنا بَعدَ إِذ هَدَيتَنا وَهَب لَنا مِن لَدُنكَ رَحمَةً ۚ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ الوَهّابُ
  • Meaning: "Our Lord! make not our hearts to deviate after Thou hast guided us aright and grant us from Thee mercy; surely Thou art the most liberal Giver."
  • Surah & Verse: Surah Al-Imran, verse 8

10. Rabbana innaka jamiAAu alnnasi liyawmin la rayba feehi inna Allaha la yukhlifu almeeAAad

  • Arabic Text: رَبَّنا إِنَّكَ جامِعُ النّاسِ لِيَومٍ لا رَيبَ فيهِ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لا يُخلِفُ الميعادَ
  • Meaning: "Our Lord! surely Thou art the Gatherer of men on a day about which there is no doubt; surely Allah will not fail (His) promise."
  • Surah & Verse: Surah Al-Imran, verse 9
  • Importance and Context: This dua emphasizes the believers' concern for the Hereafter and their request for adherence to the path of guidance to attain its reward. It affirms Allah's promise to gather all humanity on the Day of Resurrection, a day of no doubt, to requite them for their deeds. 11. rabbana innana amanna faighfir lana thunoobana waqina AAathaba alnnaar

  • Arabic Text: رَبَّنا إِنَّنا ءامَنّا فَاغفِر لَنا ذُنوبَنا وَقِنا عَذابَ النّارِ
  • Meaning: "Our Lord! surely we believe, therefore forgive us our faults and save us from the chastisement of the fire."
  • Surah & Verse: Surah Al-Imran, verse 16
  • Importance and Context: This verse is a passionate plea to Allah for forgiveness of faults and protection from the punishment of the Fire. It stresses the significance of begging Allah for forgiveness and realizing that only He can forgive and protect. 12. Rabbi hab lee min ladunka thurriyyatan tayyibatan innaka sameeAAudduAAa

  • Arabic Text: رَبِّ هَب لى مِن لَدُنكَ ذُرِّيَّةً طَيِّبَةً ۖ إِنَّكَ سَميعُ الدُّعاءِ
  • Meaning: "My Lord! grant me from Thee good offspring; surely Thou art the Hearer of prayer."
  • Surah & Verse: Surah Al-Imran, verse 38
  • Importance and Context: This is the supplication of Prophet Zakariyya (Zachariah) (peace be upon him). He prayed for a pure progeny from Allah, even though he and his wife were past the age of parenthood. 13. Rabbana amanna bima anzalta waittabaAAna alrrasoola faoktubna maAAa alshshahideen

  • Meaning: "Our Lord! we believe in what Thou hast revealed and we follow the apostle, so write us down with those who bear witness."
  • Surah & Verse: Surah Al-Imran, verse 53

14. Rabbanaa ighfir lanaa thunoobana wa israafanaa fee amrinaa wa thabbit aqdaamanaa wansurna alal qawmil kaafireen

  • Arabic Text: رَبَّنَا اغفِر لَنا ذُنوبَنا وَإِسرافَنا فى أَمرِنا وَثَبِّت أَقدامَنا وَانصُرنا عَلَى القَومِ الكٰفِرينَ
  • Meaning: "Our Lord! forgive us our sins and our transgressions, establish our feet firmly and help us against the disbelieving folk."
  • Surah & Verse: Surah Al-Imran, verse 147

15. Rabbana ma khalaqta haatha baatilan subhaanaka faqina azaabannaar

  • Arabic Text: رَبَّنا ما خَلَقتَ هٰذا بٰطِلًا سُبحٰنَكَ فَقِنا عَذابَ النّارِ
  • Meaning: "Our Lord! Thou has not created this in vain. Glory be to Thee! Guard us against the punishment of the fire."
  • Surah & Verse: Surah Al-Imran, verse 191
  • Importance and Context: This dua is a profound reflection on the purposeful creation of the universe. It expresses the believers' awe and glorification of Allah, acknowledging that His creation is not in vain. 16. Rabbanaa innaka man tudkhilinnaara faqad akhzaytahu wamaa liththaalimeena min ansaar

  • Arabic Text: رَبَّنا إِنَّكَ مَن تُدخِلِ النّارَ فَقَد أَخزَيتَهُ ۖ وَما لِلظّٰلِمينَ مِن أَنصارٍ
  • Meaning: "Our Lord! surely whomsoever You admit into the Fire, You will have abased and the harmdoers shall have no helpers."
  • Surah & Verse: Surah Al-Imran, verse 192

17. rabbana innana samiAAna munadiyan yunadee lileemani an aminoo birabbikum faamanna

  • Arabic Text: رَبَّنا إِنَّنا سَمِعنا مُنادِيًا يُنادى لِلإيمٰنِ أَن ءامِنوا بِرَبِّكُم فَـٔامَنّا
  • Meaning: "Our Lord! surely we have heard a preacher calling to the faith, saying: Believe in your Lord, so we did believe."
  • Surah & Verse: Surah Al-Imran, verse 193
  • Importance and Context: This dua is a beautiful prayer of believers who heard the call to faith (referring to Prophet Muhammad's call) and immediately responded with belief. 18. Rabbana faghfirlana thunoobanaa wa kaffir anna sayyi aatinaa wa tawaffanaa ma alabraar

  • Arabic Text: رَبَّنا فَاغفِر لَنا ذُنوبَنا وَكَفِّر عَنّا سَيِّـٔاتِنا وَتَوَفَّنا مَعَ الأَبرارِ
  • Meaning: "Our Lord! Forgive us our sins and remit from us our evil deeds and make us die with the righteous."
  • Surah & Verse: Surah AL-IMRAN, verse 193

19. Rabbanaa wa aatina maa wa adtanaa alaa rusulika walaa tukhzinaa yawmal qiyaamati innaka laa tukhliful meeAAaad

  • Arabic Text: رَبَّنا وَءاتِنا ما وَعَدتَنا عَلىٰ رُسُلِكَ وَلا تُخزِنا يَومَ القِيٰمَةِ ۗ إِنَّكَ لا تُخلِفُ الميعادَ
  • Meaning: "Our Lord! grant us what Thou hast promised us by Thy Apostles and disgrace us not on the Day of Resurrection; surely You do not break Your Promise."
  • Surah & Verse: Surah Al-Imran, verse 194
  • Importance and Context: This is a heartfelt plea for the fulfillment of promises made by Allah through His messengers. The believers seek assurance that they will not be humiliated on the Day of Judgment, trusting in Allah's unwavering commitment and absolute trustworthiness. 20. Allahumma malika almulki tutee almulka man tashao watanziAAu almulka mimman tashao watuAAizzu man tashao watuthillu man tashao biyadika alkhayru innaka AAala kulli shayin qadeer

  • Arabic Text: اللَّهُمَّ مَالِكَ الْمُلْكِ تُؤْتِي الْمُلْكَ مَن تَشَاءُ وَتَنزِعُ الْمُلْكَ مِمَّن تَشَاءُ وَتُعِزُّ مَن تَشَاءُ وَتُذِلُّ مَن تَشَاءُ ۖ بِيَدِكَ الْخَيْرُ ۖ إِنَّكَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ
  • Meaning: "O Allah, Owner of Sovereignty, You give sovereignty to whom You will and You take sovereignty away from whom You will. You honor whom You will and You humble whom You will. In Your hand is [all] good. Indeed, You are over all things competent."
  • Surah & Verse: Surah Al-Imran, verse 26
  • Importance and Context: This dua teaches Muslims to pray for power and honor, subtly indicating that they will overpower disbelievers. It was revealed when hypocrites and Jews ridiculed the Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) promise of conquering Byzantine and Persia. 21. Rabbana thalamna anfusana wa in lam taghfirlana watar hamna lana koonanna minal khasireen

  • Arabic Text: رَبَّنا ظَلَمنا أَنفُسَنا وَإِن لَم تَغفِر لَنا وَتَرحَمنا لَنَكونَنَّ مِنَ الخٰسِرينَ
  • Meaning: "Our Lord! we have sinned against ourselves and unless You grant us forgiveness and bestow Your mercy upon us, we shall most certainly be lost."
  • Surah & Verse: Surah Al-A`raf, verse 23
  • Importance and Context: This dua is the supplication of Adam and Eve after they ate from the forbidden tree. 22. Rabbana laa tajAAalna ma al qawmiththaalimeen

  • Arabic Text: رَبَّنا لا تَجعَلنا مَعَ القَومِ الظّٰلِمينَ
  • Meaning: "Our Lord! place us not with the unjust."
  • Surah & Verse: Surah Al-A`raf, verse 47
  • Importance and Context: This dua describes a scene on the Day of Judgment where believers, from the heights of Paradise, will look towards the people in Hellfire and supplicate to Allah, asking Him not to join them with the wrongdoers. It emphasizes divine justice, the fear of punishment, and the believers' hope for Allah's mercy. 23. Rabbana iftah baynana wabayna qawmina bialhaqqi waanta khayru alfatiheen

  • Arabic Text: رَبَّنَا افتَح بَينَنا وَبَينَ قَومِنا بِالحَقِّ وَأَنتَ خَيرُ الفٰتِحينَ
  • Meaning: "Our Lord! decide between us and our people with truth; and Thou art the best of deciders."
  • Surah & Verse: Surah Al-A`raf, verse 89
  • Importance and Context: This dua is a plea for divine judgment and truth between believers and their people. The Surah's theme is to affirm rewards and punishments in the Hereafter, which the people of Mecca were not prepared to acknowledge. 24. Rabbana afrigh AAalayna sabran watawaffana muslimeen

  • Arabic Text: رَبَّنا أَفرِغ عَلَينا صَبرًا وَتَوَفَّنا مُسلِمينَ
  • Meaning: "Our Lord: Pour out upon us patience and cause us to die in submission."
  • Surah & Verse: Surah Al-A`raf, verse 126
  • Importance and Context: This dua was recited by the magicians who converted to Islam after witnessing Prophet Musa's (Moses') miracles and faced persecution from Pharaoh. 25. Rabbi ighfir lee waliakhee waadkhilna fee rahmatika waanta arhamu alrrahimeen

  • Arabic Text: رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَلِأَخِي وَأَدْخِلْنَا فِي رَحْمَتِكَ ۖ وَأَنتَ أَرْحَمُ الرَّاحِمِينَ
  • Meaning: "My Lord! forgive me and my brother and cause us to enter into Thy mercy, and Thou art the most Merciful of the merciful ones."
  • Surah & Verse: Surah Al-A'raaf, verse 151
  • Importance and Context: This dua captures Prophet Musa's humble supplication after realizing his hasty judgment upon returning to find his people worshipping the golden calf. Musa seeks forgiveness for himself and his brother Harun, acknowledging the need for divine mercy and reaffirming Allah's supreme compassion. 26. Rabbi hab lee minassaaliheen

  • Arabic Text: رَبِّ هَب لى مِنَ الصّٰلِحينَ
  • Meaning: "My Lord! grant me (offspring) from the righteous."
  • Surah & Verse: Surah As-Saffaat, verse 100
  • Importance and Context: This is the dua of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) (peace be upon him). It is a general prayer for righteous offspring, reflecting a prophet's desire for a legacy of piety and devotion to Allah. 27. Rabbana isrif anna azaaba jahannama inna azaabaha kaana gharaama innaha saa at mustaqarran wa muqaama

  • Arabic Text: رَبَّنَا اصرِف عَنّا عَذابَ جَهَنَّمَ ۖ إِنَّ عَذابَها كانَ غَرامًا ﴿٦٥﴾ إِنَّها ساءَت مُستَقَرًّا وَمُقامًا
  • Meaning: "O our Lord! turn away from us the punishment of Hell, surely the punishment thereof is a lasting. Surely it is an evil abode and (evil) place to stay."
