Islamic Organizations in Nepal

Over the years several organizations were established only to disintegrate soon. The Nepali Muslims seem to be poor in organizing their community for their collective betterment.

Millat-e- Islamia Nepal , founded 32 years ago with the objective of propagating the true teaching of Islam and creating awareness about Islamic values in Nepal, is functioning mainly in the capital Kathmandu. It organizes special classes for young people, children and ladies to impart Islamic knowledge to them. It is running the country's biggest Muslim library in Kathmandu. It also manages a clinic in the city at minimum charges for poor people.

Islami Sangh Nepal, a da'wah-based organization, which was formed in 1985 is the best organized. It has its branches in most districts with sizeable Muslim population. In addition to calling people to the way of Islam it also addresses socioeconomic and educational problems of the community. Under the umbrella of Islami Sangh Al-Hira Educational Society (AHES) is running several schools. The Society supports several hundred poor and orphan children also. The same Islami Sangh is also parenting Students' Education Foundation (SEF), which is working in the field of higher education and Nepal Masajid Council, which builds, renovates and manages mosques all over the country. Finally, Islami Sangh has also formed and Health Services Relief Association of Nepal , to work in the stated field. Currently, The Association is busy in building a 15-bedded General Hospital and Maternity Clinic in eastern Nepal. Islami Sangh and all its sister organizations are registered with the government of Nepal.

A new organization came into existence in the backdrop of the September 1, 2004 anti-Muslim riots. Named National Muslim Forum , it is a broad-based group embodying Islamic scholars and intellectuals of all regions, fields and schools-of-thought. To look into the socio-religio-political issues of the community is the main goal of this organization. In its short life it has already shown some promise and a lot is expected of it in future.

Tableeghi Jamaat and Jamiat Ahle Hadith are also working in organized form.

There are some other organizations also but their influence is more local than national.
